The hottest air temperature recorded anywhere on the planet in at least a century, and possibly ever, was reached in Death Valley in California’s Mojave Desert where it soared to 54.4 degrees Celsius (130 Fahrenheit).

An automated observation system run by the U.S. National Weather Service at Furnace Creek reported the record.

According to meteorologist Daniel Berc, it felt “insanely hot.” Based in the National Weather Service Las Vegas bureau, he forecast that the heatwave would continue all week.

He said “It’s literally like being in an oven. Today is another day we could take another run at 130F.”

The record comes as scientists warn of the dangers of a heating planet. Last month was the world’s third-hottest July on record, and three of the hottest ever July’s all occurred within the last five years.

Extreme heat will continue to plague the country. Approximately 56 million people are under heat advisories or warnings, and many daily record high temperatures are forecast.

The Biblical Prophecies (Revelation 16) foretell that the heat from the Sun will become so extreme that it will scorch humanity with great heat and fire at the end of this age.
