A spokesperson for Harris Health Systems in Houston, Texas, is reported to have said “We’re running out of ICU beds” according to ABC News.

The report says the surge in coronavirus cases has gotten so bad in Houston that two of the city’s hospitals have begun transporting patients to other cities in Texas.

Harris Health Systems, which runs Ben Taub and LBJ hospitals, has transferred out close to 50 patients to other medical facilities in the surrounding area.

Some of those locations include Texas Children’s Hospital, which has recently started being used for adult covid-19 patients, and also UTMB’s Galveston hospital, which is about 50 miles out.

Harris County leads Texas in coronavirus cases — 32,859 as of Thursday morning — according to the Harris County Health Department.

Last week, the Texas Governor stopped and then rolled back the re-opening of the state. He has now shut down state bars and urged people to take more precautions as the number of new COVID-19 cases increase throughout the state.

Yesterday, Texas reported more than 8,000 new cases, and 57 deaths, in one day.
