Lawyer For Persecuted Christian Asia Bibi Flees Pakistan In Fear For His Life

Signs of the Last Days® MinistryGeneral

The lawyer representing Asia Bibi, a Christian woman acquitted of blasphemy after eight years on death row, has fled Pakistan in fear for his life.

Saif Mulook told news agency AFP he had to leave because he feared for his life and so he could continue to represent Asia Bibi, whose conviction was overturned by the Pakistan Supreme Court—who said Bibi was innocent and that in the words of Shakespeare’s King Lear, “more sinned against than sinning.”

Mr Mulook also told the BBC earlier this week that Bibi would need to be moved out of Pakistan to a Western country for her own safety. A number of attempts have previously been made on her life.

But Pakistan government officials made an agreement with Islamists who were rioting across the country to bar Ms Bibi from leaving Pakistan in order to end the violent protests over the ruling of her innocence by the court and are keeping her imprisoned.

And human rights groups campaigning for her release have blasted the government’s deal with the Islamists as being akin to signing her “death warrant.”

Already, when she was first falsely arrested for blasphemy against Islam for being a Christian, a prominent politician, Punjab Governor Salman Taseer, was murdered by an Islamist for speaking out in her support and calling for the blasphemy laws in Pakistan to be reformed.

And Bibi, who has previously been beaten, has also had death threats and plans to kill her in prison thwarted thus far.

The government became fearful when Islamists took to the streets after the Christian was declared innocent holding rallies nationwide threatening violence closing down shops and schools. And when the Islamists urged the three judges who acquitted Bibi be killed, and also to revolt against the newly elected government of Pakistan’s new prime minister, Imran Khan, who came to power partly by pursuing an Islamist agenda.

Even though Asia Bibi was judged innocent, her fate is in peril. Please continue to pray for this Christian who is suffering continued persecution by Islam in Pakistan.
