A strong earthquake struck south of Hawaii’s Big Island. The earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.2, shook the island with it landing about 17 miles south of the southern tip of the Big Island, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
Almost 2,000 residents reported feeling the earthquake to the USGS. But Honolulu’s National Weather Service said there was no tsunami threat from the quake.
Within the past century, there have been 15 other earthquakes with a magnitude of six or above within 62 miles of this quake.
The earthquake comes after Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano, one of the most active on Earth, erupted again last month, forming lava fountains and sending smoke billowing from the crater at its summit.
The eruption at the Halemaumau crater appeared to be contained within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and has so far posed no threat, USGS officials said.
Experts said this current earthquake was the strongest quake in Hawaii since 2018, when a 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck the south flank of Kilauea and eruptions began in Leilani Estates.
A resident who lives in Naalehu said “This was a different earthquake; it was more of a hard jolt, and then it started shaking.” And added that, “we thought the volcano had blown.”
She said her house started shaking violently, and the ground felt like it was jiggling, “like we’ve never experienced something that strong before here in Hawaii,” she continued.
The Biblical prophecies (Matthew 24, Luke 21, Revelation 6) foretell that there will be earthquakes in the prophetic Last Days signaling the world is nearing the end of this age and the coming of Jesus Christ.
These events and conditions happening now are warning signs pointing to the nearing fulfillment of the Last Days prophecies at the end of this age revealing it’s time to prepare now for the nearing appearance of Jesus Christ for His Church by being born again spiritually into the Kingdom of God as Jesus said we must (John 3) and His Apostles who were authorized (Matthew 16:19) described how (Acts 2).
