Massive 7.0 Earthquake Hits U.S. In Alaska

Signs of the Last Days® MinistryNews

A massive earthquake registering 7.0 magnitude according to the U.S. Geological Survey has rocked Anchorage, Alaska today sending debris crashing to the ground, damaging buildings and causing “major infrastructure damage,” officials said.

The quake happened about 7.5 miles north of the city, the USGS reported, and officials said residents there should brace for aftershocks. It was followed by a large 5.8 magnitude earthquake shortly afterwards.

Also, the US Tsunami Warning System has put a tsunami warning in place for many areas in southern Alaska. Anchorage is Alaska’s largest city and is in the south-central part of the state on the Cook Inlet.

Those caught in the tremblor described ferocious shaking that “just didn’t stop.” It was not immediately clear if there were injuries, but Anchorage police said damage was extensive.

A reporter from the Associated Press who was working in downtown Anchorage reportedly saw cracks in a two-story building following the quake.

“There is major infrastructure damage across Anchorage. Many homes and buildings are damaged,” the department said in a bulletin. “Many roads and bridges are closed. Stay off the roads if you don’t need to drive. Seek a safe shelter. Check on your surroundings and loved ones.”
