Massive Mid-East Explosion Kills 60 Rocking Beirut With Thousands Hurt

A massive explosion sending a giant mushroom cloud into the sky shook Beirut killing at least 60 people and injuring thousands of others while flattening much of the sea port and damaging buildings across the city.

The Lebanese Red Cross is responding with more than 30 teams and ambulances to the scene of the explosion whose cause is currently unknown.

The injured are being sent to facilities outside of the city since the hospitals are already filled to capacity.

A fire appeared to catch on at a building, triggering a massive explosion, sending up a mushroom cloud and a shock wave into the city from the port causing wide-scale destruction.

Witnesses reported seeing a strange orange-colored cloud over the site after the explosion. Orange clouds of toxic nitrogen dioxide gas often accompany an explosion involving nitrates.

Video taken by residents showed a fire raging at the port, sending up a giant column of smoke, illuminated by flashes of what appear to be fireworks. Local TV stations reported that a fireworks warehouse was involved.

Abbas Ibrahim, chief of Lebanese General Security, said the explosion might have been caused by highly explosive material that was confiscated from a ship some time ago and stored at the port. Local television channel LBC said the material was sodium nitrate.

Charbel Haj, who works at the port, said it started as small explosions like firecrackers, then the huge blast erupted, and he was thrown off his feet.

“It was like a nuclear explosion,” said Walid Abdo, a 43-year-old school teacher in the neighborhood of Gemayzeh near Beirut.

The explosion happened just days before a United Nations tribunal is expected to issue its verdict on four alleged Hezbollah members accused of killing former Lebanon Prime Minister Rafic Hariri in a 2005 car bombing on the Beirut seafront.

The blast came at a time when Lebanon’s economy is facing collapse, hit both by a financial crisis and coronavirus restrictions with many losing their jobs and savings evaporating as the currency plunged in value.

One man was quoted as calling Lebanon a “cursed” country, as it is suffering from the coronavirus outbreak and a shattered economy after decades of wars, terrorism and assassinations.

The Biblical Prophecies of Jesus (Matthew 24, Luke 21) foretell that rumors of war, pestilence, and distress of nations will be signs indicating the nearing of the end of this age.

These events and conditions happening now are warning signs pointing to the nearing fulfillment of the Last Days prophecies at the end of this age revealing it’s time to prepare now for the nearing appearance of Jesus Christ for His Church by being born again spiritually into the Kingdom of God as Jesus said we must (John 3) and His Apostles who were authorized (Matthew 16:19) described how (Acts 2).
