At least 20 people have been killed in a rising death toll when the most powerful earthquake to hit in decades shook Albania next to Greece tearing down buildings and burying residents under rubble.
The earthquake estimated near 6.5 magnitude hit the southeastern European nation at an approximate depth of 12 miles early Tuesday local time, according to the United States Geological Survey.
And many more are still missing and hundreds have been injured with the Prime Minister’s Office revising the death toll upwards several times.
Firefighters, police and civilians were desperately removing the debris from collapsed buildings with most of the buildings that collapsed built of bricks and concrete.
In one town rescuers used a mechanical digger to claw at collapsed masonry and remove a tangle of metal and cables, while others groped with bare hands to clear rubble.
Dozens have been rescued from the rubble and more than 650 people have received medical attention.
Nearby countries, including Italy and Greece, have been assisting Albania with the earthquake recovery operation, while other European leaders have also offered their assistance.
One resident said they were sleeping in their apartment on the fourth floor of a five-story building when the quake shattered the top floors. “The roof collapsed on our head and I don’t know how we escaped. God helped us,” they said.
Then just a few hours later a magnitude 5.4 earthquake also hit nearby Bosnia south of Sarajevo but there were no immediate reports of injuries.
Albania is located along the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, between Greece and Macedonia, in a part of what was the ancient empire of Greece.
And that empire is referred to in the Biblical Daniel prophecies (Daniel 8) as the location from which comes the Last Days anti-christ.
These events and conditions happening now are signs pointing to the nearing fulfillment of the Last Days prophecies at the end of this age revealing it’s time to prepare for the nearing appearance of Jesus Christ for His Church by being born again spiritually into the Kingdom of God as Jesus said we must (John 3) and His Apostles who were authorized (Matthew 16:19) described how (Acts 2).
Preparing those Biblically born again into the Kingdom of God to be ready to escape all the things that will come to pass, in the wrath of the tribulation of Revelation prophecy, that comes upon the world of disobedience. As the born again Church is not appointed unto wrath (1 Thessalonians 1:10) but instead to salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ.
