Virus Strikes California Fire Evacuees, 145 Infected, 25 Hospitalized

Signs of the Last Days® MinistryNews

The Butte County Public Health Department says that 145 people in local evacuation shelters have become sick from an outbreak of Norovirus with severe vomiting and diarrhea.

There have been twenty-five people transferred to hospitals for medical support. The outbreak has been identified and confirmed by the Butte County public health laboratory to be the norovirus which is highly contagious.

The number of sick people is increasing every day and staff serving the shelters have also become sick. There is currently no vaccine or medication to treat those with norovirus.

The Butte County health department is working with the Red Cross, state and federal partners to reduce the spread of the illness at the evacuation shelters.

Some of the actions being taken include establishing separate shelters for sick evacuees, active monitoring of shelter residents and protective equipment for medical staff.
