17,000 Earthquakes Hit Iceland In 1 Week As Eruption Expected

Signs of the Last Days® MinistryNews

Even for a volcanic island accustomed to the occasional tremor, this has been unusual for Iceland where according to the Icelandic Meteorological Office, around 17,000 earthquakes have hit the southwestern region of Reykjanes in one week.

The swarm of earthquakes continues to rattle residents in the nearby capital city of Reykjavík and the municipalities around it, where two-thirds of the Icelandic population lives. As there have also been several larger quakes in the activity over 5.0 magnitude.

The quakes have caused little damage so far, though Iceland’s Road and Coastal Administration has reported small cracks in roads in the area and rockfalls on steep slopes near the epicenter of the swarm.

But residents say they are uneasy since they have not experienced anything like this before. As there seems to be no end to the rumble under the ground this time.

One Reykjavik resident said “I have experienced earthquakes before but never so many in a row. It is very unusual to feel the Earth shake 24 hours a day for a whole week. It makes you feel very small and powerless against nature.”

A resident in the fishing town of Grindavík said “I’ve not experienced anything like this before, …it is much more now — very unsettling. I’m not afraid but this is uncomfortable. I woke up twice last night because of [tremors]. There was a very big one when I went to sleep, and I woke up with one.”

A professor of volcanology at the University of Iceland said that concerns over the recent seismic activity were understandable since what is happening is unusual for the region.

And with multiple volcanoes in the area, local officials have warned that an eruption could be imminent.

The major Icelandic eruption of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano in 2010 caused one of the world’s largest air-traffic shutdowns since World War II with its ash plume.

Iceland’s Department for Civil Protection and Emergency Management told a news conference that an eruption was “more likely than not.”

The Biblical prophecies (Matthew 24, Luke 21, Revelation 6) foretell that seismic activity as earthquakes and volcanoes will happen in the Last Days signaling the world is nearing the end of this age.

These events and conditions happening now are warning signs pointing to the nearing fulfillment of the Last Days prophecies at the end of this age revealing it’s time to prepare now for the nearing appearance of Jesus Christ for His Church by being born again spiritually into the Kingdom of God as Jesus said we must (John 3) and His Apostles who were authorized (Matthew 16:19) described how (Acts 2).

The prophecy has come true, the perilous times are here. The need is greater than ever before.
