It is one of the longest and most historically defining rivers in the Middle East. The Euphrates River flows from Turkey through Syria and Iraq emptying into the Gulf of Persia. In times past the oldest of civilizations flourished here. Today the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria is waging what it considers a holy Islamic war for a caliphate, and is pushing out its influence to the world through media.

Looking at a map of ISIS controlled areas; anyone can’t help but notice how ISIS has focused on the Euphrates real estate and controlling this water. They now have much control and influence of this life-giving artery that flows through Syria and Iraq.

Today countries from around the world are being swept up to fight in Iraq and Syria and are being drawn to the Euphrates. The list includes the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia, Iran/Syria/Russia, Germany, France, Jordan, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the list goes on with many more.

But several millennia ago the Holy Scriptures prophesied this would happen. In Revelation 9 the Holy Writ says, “Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates.” Then the chapter immediately goes on to describe the awful destruction of millions in armies at war. The countries of the world are being drawn to the land of the Euphrates River for world war just as was predicted. This war is far from over and will have more tragic consequences.

But in such a global environment as this, there is still a solution for anyone seeking peace and hope for now and in the future. It is found in the same Holy Scriptures, that there is a Prince of Peace who is the answer. It is Jesus the Christ from Nazareth of Galilee.
