A gunman in Turkey wearing a suit and tie opened fire on Russia’s ambassador shooting him in the back, killing the diplomat at a photo exhibit in the Turkish capital, Ankara, where the ambassador was a guest speaker.
The gunman then shouted, “Allah Akbar! Do not forget Aleppo! … As long as our lands are not safe, you will not be safe!” The gunman was later killed.
The assassination occurred on the eve of a scheduled meeting of Russian, Turkish and Iranian foreign ministers to discuss next steps in the Syria crisis where the Assad regime has the help of Russian airstrikes and Iranian-commanded Shiite militias.
