It was prophesied this would happen. Now there are thousands flocking to a man saying that he is the Christ. He calls himself Vissarion and wears a long white cloak with long hair and beard.
This leader teaches his followers about a coming apocalypse and says his goal is to join every religion on the globe together.
Thousands of Russians have flocked to southern Siberia to follow this man who claims to be Jesus Christ reincarnated.
He has inspired thousands of disillusioned Russians to join a new-age exodus to the wilderness countryside from across the nation.
The number of his followers has multiplied tenfold to about 5000 with believers coming from across Russia and also European countries as Germany, Bulgaria, and Poland.
He tells them that “I am Jesus Christ,” and that “It was prophesied that I would return to finish what I started.”
Many of the followers say they are exhausted by decades of corruption, terrorism, ethnic violence, and fading morality in their country. And feeling the absence of moral authority in orthodox churches, and feeling lost searching for a definite truth, they seek to fill the spiritual hunger with the utopian ideals of end-time cult leaders.
The Russian government has grown increasingly worried about such sects which are said to have grown with estimates that 4,000 distinct religious movements and cults exist there today.
And the followers are not uneducated or ignorant. One is a former successful lawyer at a Moscow advertising company, who was attracted to the creativity of Vissarion and joined his community to live among creative, happy people.
Then there are others who felt Vissarion’s philosophy just made sense. One of this messiah’s followers and chief priest is a former colonel of the Strategic Rocket Forces, the branch of the Russian military that operates nuclear missiles.
He felt that his christ’s teachings embraced and integrated the major teachings of everything people liked from the Bible and other philosophies like Krishna.
And there have been hundreds of other Moscow and St. Petersburg officers, artists, and academics who quit their jobs and followed their teacher into the wilderness of Siberia.
But Jesus Christ, the true Son of God, foretold in Matthew 24 that this Sign of the Last Days would come. He said “For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. ”
Vissarion and other false christs like him are Signs of the Last Days showing us we live in the Last Days at the end of this Age.
Jesus foretold this would happen saying “Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There!’ do not believe it.”
Jesus taught that before He returned, the Last Days would become a time of extreme deception, to where “… false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you beforehand.”
And this spirit of heinous evil deception is present now and growing ever stronger until there is a final manifestation of a false christ, the Anti-christ and his False Prophet of the Revelation Prophecy, who rise up to deceive the world into following him and his plans.
These are signs we are ever nearer to the world following the Anti-christ into the Great Tribulation of earth.
While the true Church of Jesus Christ, in a moment of rapturous catching away, follow Jesus Christ to a heavenly celebration of their redemption by Him.
