Iran has aggressively shot down a large, expensive U.S. drone over international waters in the Mideast, while the U.S. response continues to follow the West’s attitude in the Biblical prophetic pattern found in the Ezekiel prophecy.
Iran blasted a U.S. Navy sophisticated high-altitude drone out of the sky over the Strait of Hormuz at the Persian Gulf in the most recent Iranian provocation in the region, coming on the heels of attacks on commercial shipping in the area.
U.S. commanders said the drone was flying over the Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz on a surveillance mission in international airspace when it was shot down by a surface to air missile fired from a location near Goruk, Iran.
Iran claimed the U.S. drone was over Iranian airspace when it was shot down — but American officials stated unequivocally the incident occurred in international airspace.
The drone was a Navy RQ-4A Global Hawk deployed to the Middle East in the past few days as part of reinforcements approved by President Trump.
The large high-altitude drone that weighs as much as a city bus, can fly up to 60,000 feet or 11 miles in altitude and loiter for 30 hours at a time. It was most likely being used to spy on Iranian military communications and track shipping in the busy waterways.
The RQ-4 is one of the most advanced high-altitude drones being employed operationally that has a suite of high-end electronic sensors and other intelligence-gathering systems to peer into other countries.
But the aircraft, which is used by both the US Air Force and the US Navy, has a price tag higher than the US military’s new F-35 stealth fighters. A Global Hawk has a unit cost of roughly $123 million, while an F-35A Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter costs only $89 million.
So this was not some small throw-away drone but a large, sophisticated, expensive asset of the U.S. military.
And earlier this week, Gen. Paul Selva, the vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters that “if the Iranians come after US citizens, US assets or [the] US military, we reserve the right to respond with a military action, and they need to know that.”
So now that Iran has openly and blatantly done just that, it’s interesting the statements coming out of the U.S. administration after the incident.
U.S. President Trump said that the Iranian shoot-down of the American drone may not have been intentional, but a “mistake” by someone “stupid.”
In an Oval Office meeting with reporters, Trump said, “I find it hard to believe it was intentional if you want to know the truth. It could have been somebody who was loose and stupid that did it.”
Meanwhile, Gen. Hossein Salami, commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, continued to make strongly worded threats to the U.S. after Iran downed the drone. Saying that shooting down the drone had sent the U.S. a clear and firm message that while they don’t want war they are completely ready for war.
Iran’s aggressiveness in the Mideast and the West’s response continue’s to follow the Biblical prophetic pattern found in the Ezekiel 38 prophecy.
Where as Iran continues it’s aggressive nature (Ezekiel 38:5, Daniel 10:13) with actions across the Mideast, the West’s response (Ezekiel 38:13) continues to be only verbal as in diplomatic channels.
The prophetic result will be that Iran does not believe it will ever be attacked and stopped in the Mideast, empowering and enabling them to reach their ultimate Mideast goal of having military forces at the borders of Israel and invading Israel.
But although the nations of the West would not stop Iran, it is there at Israel that the Lord God does stop Iran. When the Lord commands nature itself (Ezekiel 38:18-23) to turn on their invading forces and destroy them. But until then, the prophetic pattern is continuing.
As signs we are living in the Last Days era of prophecy near the end of this age. And as a warning for people to prepare for the nearing appearance of Jesus Christ to catch away His believers by being born again as Jesus said we must in John 3, and His Apostles described how in Acts 2.
