The US Department of Homeland Security has warned that city governments around the US are being hit with malware that is “among the most costly and destructive,” as US towns have paid millions of dollars in ransom and expenses.

Cyber-attacks are one of the newest frontiers of war for nations and their proxies.

US intelligence agencies in 2016 said that cyber-espionage and information-warfare campaigns were done by hacker groups named as “the Dukes” and “Fancy Bears” who were cyber-espionage teams linked to the Russian government.

Where they not only pierced USA political party computer systems but also email systems of the White House, the State Department and even the Joint Chiefs of Staff, one of the government’s best-protected networks.

And now cities in the US are struggling to cope after getting hit as well. A Florida city agreed to pay a ransom of $600,000 worth of bitcoin to hackers who took its computer systems offline with a cyber-attack.

Riviera Beach’s city council voted to pay the money after an attack affected the city’s online services, including email and 911 dispatches.  And the city council also voted to spend another $1 million on new computers after the attack.

Security experts in the federal government and the private sector have repeatedly warned that much of the US public infrastructure is dangerously exposed to cyber-attacks.

And Riviera Beach is a stark example but far from the only US city to be hit and crippled by a cyber-attack.

The city of Baltimore is one of the high-profile victims where hackers had demanded Baltimore pay a $76,000 ransom, which the city refused but has still payed an awful price.

Because they spent a month paralyzed by the cyber-attack that froze a large chunk of its computer network. The attack began in early May, shutting down infrastructure for its email systems and the payment of water bills.

And as recently as mid-June, local media had reported that 30% of city employees still had no email access and many services would not return to full functionality for even more months.

According to the city’s latest estimate, the attack had cost it more than $18 million.

Elsewhere, a ransomware attack on Atlanta ultimately cost the city some $2.6 million. Albany, New York; San Diego; Sarasota, Florida; and a Los Angeles hospital, have also faced similar attacks.

And attacks like these, while damaging within themselves, could also be a precursor as a harbinger of something larger that is coming. Such as a large-scale cyber-attack, particularly one targeted at the electrical grid, which could cripple the US.

Some experts believe US cyber-defenses will continue to be ignored until an attack is so catastrophic to where people and society are deeply impacted putting their lives at risk. And they say a cyber-attack war can strike just as hard or harder than a natural disaster.

With nations and their proxies launching cyber-attacks against one another, there’s now the technology and the temperament of aggression in the world for a successful cyber-attack on critical infrastructure to do as much damage as a natural disaster, bringing a whole country to a standstill.

And the US seems to be particularly vulnerable because so much infrastructure is controlled by computer systems. Also, many towns and private companies, don’t seem well-equipped to deal with the threat as seen in the city of Riviera Beach.

Experts say a serious cyber-attack can knock flat the technological systems that underpin all of the governance and function supporting the life of society today.

Technology today has brought advancements to life and enhanced the conveniences in modern society, but it’s a two-sided sword.

Where the technology also makes a pathway to unintended consequences, and those unintended consequences can be prophetic and mount up until it puts humanity at risk of danger and harm that are of existential magnitude.

How do you think that some of the Revelation prophecies are advanced to their full Biblical realization?

Where there will be war so advanced that is unleashed upon the earth (Revelation 9) that it kills a third of mankind, that’s 1 in 3 of every human being, killing not just millions but billions of people. It is no doubt done with technologically enhanced weapons of warfare.

And then there is the Mark of the Beast (Revelation 13) to where no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name, on their right hand or on their foreheads. How could such a system of control be implemented, of course by technology.

But all the while, as the signs of the Last Days prophecies are building, at the same time humanity is cocooned within the virtual reality of its technology. And separated from the reality of the real world, diverting their attention from their coming apocalypse.

As technology continues to shield humanity from the real world consequences of ignoring God’s Holy Word and continuing their deepening self-indulgent gratification of humanism.

But the signs of the prophecies are starting to catch up with humanity, even faster than they realize.

Until one day they will be surprised as they look up from their computer screens and see they have been completely overtaken and are in the judgment of the wrath of the tribulation prophecies of Revelation.

The Biblical prophecies (Matthew 24, Daniel 12) foretell how that knowledge and wars and rumors of wars will increase indicating the nearing end of this age of human government.

These events are signs of the Last Days revealing its time to prepare for the nearing appearance of Jesus Christ by being born again spiritually into the Kingdom of God as Jesus said we must (John 3) and His Apostles who were authorized (Matthew 16:19) described how (Acts 2). And this new birth experience brings peace and joy in the Holy Spirit now in this life, and eternal life in the world to come.
