In areas across the U.S. there are groups who want to show that America trusts in God. One place is in the schools of South Dakota, where students can expect to see a new message on their school walls this upcoming school year: the U.S. national motto “In God We Trust.”
A new bill signed by Gov. Kristi Noem requires all public schools in the state to display the motto.
A motto is described as a short sentence or phrase chosen as encapsulating the beliefs or ideals guiding an individual, family, or institution.
‘In God We Trust’ is the official motto of the United States, where U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a law officially declaring “In God We Trust” to be the nation’s official motto in 1956.
And the motto will be on display in the schools of South Dakota, where it must be located in “a prominent location” in each school, such as the school entryway, cafeteria, or other common areas, according to a summary of the bill.
It also says it must be “easily readable” and the style of the display will be left up to the school principal and can range from a mounted plaque to student artwork.
And one school district in the state has already completed the stenciling of “In God We Trust” on the wall of its 23 public schools.
Also in Bakersfield, California, the City Council there approved a proposal to add “In God We Trust” decals to both police and fire vehicles.
One Council member said “I love the motto; It’s meaningful. It’s powerful. Those words are intended to encourage.” And a non-profit organization, In God We Trust America, has offered to pay for the decals.
The U.S. Representative, who represents Bakersfield, said he fully supported the decals. “Displaying ‘In God We Trust’ — the official motto of the United States — on Bakersfield Police Department cars is a testament to each officer’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and defending the City of Bakersfield and its residents,” he said in a statement.
And the city council members in the nearby town of Delano also approved a proposal to add “In God We Trust” to their police vehicles. And the town of Shafter, which borders Bakersfield, is expected to also vote on a similar proposal.
The motto publicly represents the belief of the United States that had united and carried the country through the trials of becoming a nation and fighting two world wars against evil.
So to protect the liberty to worship God, as families across the country prayed for the Lord’s guidance and help in troublesome times.
