Tropical Storm Imelda was a slow motion catastrophe in southeast Texas that those affected are saying was as bad or worse as Hurricane Harvey which was a historic hurricane in the area.
Buckets of rain poured down this week from Tuesday even until Friday with it reaching an apex on Thursday as the storm exploded ashore and dumped 4 feet of rain in some areas. That’s right, its not a typo, … 4 feet of rain.
Imelda also unleashed tornadoes and half a million lightning strikes, including one that killed a man. Hundreds and hundreds of people were stranded with thousands rescued and five dead.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott declared a state of disaster in 13 counties Thursday, saying the severe weather “has caused widespread and severe property damage and threatens loss of life.”
In Beaumont, Texas, the rain fell quickly, more than three feet in just 24 hours. The heaviest hitting overnight, leaving some with nowhere to go.
The storm forced the major highway, Interstate 10, to shut down and drivers were stranded for more than nine hours. First responders were overwhelmed, and in the Beaumont area, they lost count of the calls for help.
It was the same scene throughout the Houston area. People wading through waist-deep water, cars submerged, the airport shut down, homes surrounded and flooded.
Just two years after Hurricane Harvey drowned southeast Texas, some now say Imelda is worse. One person said “We never flooded before, and we had a lot worse rain than this, and it has never been this bad.”
Winnie, Texas, was one of the hardest-hit areas with 80% of Winnie under 43 inches of water and counting, as more than 300 people were stranded in cars and homes and had to be rescued by boats and military trucks.
CBS News rode along on a rescue mission with Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne. “This is worse than Harvey,” he said. “We have homes and businesses and the hospital that never even got water in Harvey, that got flooded in this storm.”
And for a lot of the homes that were flooded out during Hurricane Harvey, some people had just got back in their homes.
That included Gene LeBlanc and his 12-year-old son Adam, who lost almost everything two years ago. “You would think it would never happen again, you know they say it’ll never happen again, but here we are,” LeBlanc said.
It was just 24 months ago that Hurricane Harvey dumped a record amount of rain on the Houston area – up to five feet. They said it was an event of biblical proportions. The kind that, in previous history, would be expected only once every millennium.
But now, near the end of this age, we are having unprecedented 1000 year events on a regular basis. As equally catastrophic storms named Irma, Maria, Florence, Dorian and now Imelda, are leaving behind little doubt we are seeing signs of the Last Days era.
These events and conditions happening now are signs pointing to the nearing fulfillment of the Last Days prophecies at the end of this age revealing it’s time to prepare for the nearing appearance of Jesus Christ for His Church by being born again spiritually into the Kingdom of God as Jesus said we must (John 3) and His Apostles who were authorized (Matthew 16:19) described how (Acts 2).
Preparing those Biblically born again into the Kingdom of God to be ready to escape all the things that will come to pass, in the wrath of the tribulation of Revelation prophecy that comes upon the world of disobedience, as the born again Church is not appointed unto wrath but instead to salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ.
