Ferocious hurricane-force winds driving multiple wildfires through bone-dry vegetation has caused 200,000 people ordered to leave their homes, as California’s Governor declared a statewide emergency.
Meanwhile, millions of residents remained without power after the state’s largest utility cut electricity as a precaution to prevent more areas from igniting firestorms.
The Governor said in a statement that officials were deploying “every resource available” to respond to the wildfires, including a large blaze in Northern California’s wine country powered by wind gusts that reached more than 102 mph.
The biggest evacuation was in Northern California’s Sonoma County where 180,000 people were told to pack up and leave, many in the middle of the night.
To prevent its power lines from sparking in the high winds and setting off more blazes, Pacific Gas & Electric said that preventative shut-offs impacted 965,000 customers.
Another 100,000 lost electricity because of strong gusts, bringing the number of residents impacted by blackouts to nearly 2.7 million people.
PG&E officials say they are expecting strong winds to whip up again and that they have notified 500,000 customers — or more than 1 million people — that they are likely to have their power turned off for the third time in a week.
The fear that the winds could blow embers and spread fire across a major highway prompted authorities to expand evacuation orders for the city of Santa Rosa, a city of 175,000 that was devastated by a wildfire two years ago.
The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office tweeted, “This is the largest evacuation that any of us … can remember, take care of each other.”
Hundreds of people arrived at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa, where some came from senior care facilities. And hundreds of people slept inside an auditorium filled with cots and wheeled beds.
Sonoma County Sheriff urged residents in the evacuation zone that stretched from the wine country to Bodega Bay on the coast to get out immediately, citing the 24 lives lost when fire swept through the region in October 2017.
A historic attraction outside Healdsburg was lost when embers carried by wind sparked a blaze that engulfed the Soda Rock Winery and buildings which included a general store and post office founded in 1869.
The city of Vallejo said the blackout shut off its pumping station needed to access its well water, prompting an emergency with the city barring residents from watering yards and limiting bathing and flushing toilets.
Many residents said they feel exasperated and with a lot of anxiety, saying they “don’t want to go through this again” after experiencing the cycles of wildfires, evacuations, and sheltering, over and again.
The prophecies of the Bible (Luke 21) foretell that there will be events as signs of the Last Days that bring distress and perplexity and even fear for the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth.
These events and conditions happening now are signs pointing to the nearing fulfillment of the Last Days prophecies at the end of this age revealing it’s time to prepare for the nearing appearance of Jesus Christ for His Church by being born again spiritually into the Kingdom of God as Jesus said we must (John 3) and His Apostles who were authorized (Matthew 16:19) described how (Acts 2).
Preparing those Biblically born again into the Kingdom of God to be ready to escape all the things that will come to pass, in the wrath of the tribulation of Revelation prophecy, that comes upon the world of disobedience. As the born again Church is not appointed unto wrath (1 Thessalonians 1:10) but instead to salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ.
