Louisiana Pastor Tony Spell was arrested today for allegedly backing a church bus toward a coronavirus protester on the street in front of his church.

WAFB 9 News in Baton Rouge reported that Pastor Tony Spell was arrested, handcuffed and taken to prison after being charged with aggravated assault, improper backing, and outstanding bench warrants.

The pastor was heard saying, “Don’t take my Bible,” as police placed his hands behind his back to handcuff him. However, the police did remove the Bible from his possession before leading him away.

Spell, who pastors the Life Tabernacle Church, had previously refused to close down his church gatherings in the midst of the new coronavirus pandemic.

The Central Police Department said Spell was issued an arrest warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the report by WAFB 9 News.

Newsweek showed security footage of the incident on Sunday which shows a church bus backing up to a man holding a sign. The bus stops right before it reaches the man, who was protesting Spell’s refusal to adhere to government lock-down orders.

The protester made statements to the effect that he felt threatened by the bus as it came toward him and then stopped.

The pastor said the protester had been in front of the church driveway for weeks making obscene gestures and shouting vulgarities at people coming to church, which the protester denied.

The pastor had already previously been charged with six counts of violating the governor’s executive order, accused of violating the order to limit crowd sizes amid the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

Spell had asserted that he was holding worship services under his constitutional rights and under a mandate given to him by Jesus Christ to not forsake to assemble together.
