The sky turned blood red over China as stated in reports from the Chinese east coast city of Zhoushan with people saying the deep blood red sky was a sign of the Apocalypse.
Video clips and images have been rapidly circulating on Twitter and other social media sites showing the deeply red colored sky over the city.
One popular clip that has been shared appears to have originated from the Chinese social media website Weibo showing a view of the sky from a residential street.
Where people stand and talk as the camera pans across the sky showing the blood red color which appears brighter toward the horizon.
Other clips also appear to show the same phenomenon with them too showing a deep blood red sky.
The clips were attributed eerie significance by some, including a Twitter user called Anonymous Operations who wrote: “In the Chinese urban district of Zhoushan, it seems that the apocalypse has begun.”
Also, in one of the video clips, an onlooker reportedly said they had “never seen anything like this.”
Other people used the event to also fuel conspiracy theories, with some users pushing narratives without further evidence around clandestine government activities.
However, the blood red sky reports and videos appear to have been corroborated by the Chinese state media outlet the Global Times. As they attempted to dismiss the event as lights coming from “fishing boats.”
As to any possible solar and geomagnetic activity causing the event, that was all reported as being calm by the space physics research team of the China University of Geosciences in Wuhan.
As to any building fires or wildfires causing the apocalyptic scene, there were no reports of such fires in the local Chinese media at that time, and NASA’s global fire map showed that there was no significant hotspots in the Zhoushan area then.
The event was fact-checked by Newsweek who reported the event as true, that the sky did turn blood red over the city of Zhoushan in China.
And that they could not independently find a definitive explanation of the phenomenon, other than the Chinese state media claiming it was caused by lights from fishing boats.
