The Biden administration has directed law enforcement and intelligence officials to study the threat of domestic violent extremism in the United States.

As they say the US Capitol riot indicates a national security threat that officials see as posed by American extremists motivated by radical ideology.

Reports say the involvement of the national intelligence office, created after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks with a goal of thwarting international terrorism, suggests U.S. authorities are examining how to pivot to a more concerted focus on violence from extremists at home.

The threat assessment seems to indicate the federal government national security apparatus, which has for decades moved aggressively to combat threats from foreign terror groups and their followers in America, now wants to address the threat of domestic extremism.

The national threat assessment is being coordinated by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security.

The Biden administration is also directing the National Security Council to build out its capability to counter domestic violent extremism threats.

They said the NSA will undertake a policy review to determine how the federal government can share information more effectively to address threats, prevent radicalization and disrupt extremist networks.

However, a concern is what will be used as a criteria for “radical ideology” by an extremely liberal administration in order to determine who is a domestic extremist.
