When a Christian flees as a refugee and then are arrested for privately sharing their testimony, there are countries you think this may have happened in, like China. But this happened in the U.S.
Its reported that Ramin Parsa, a Christian pastor who fled Iran as a religious refugee, was arrested for privately sharing his faith testimony in the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota.
He fled persecution in Iran and Turkey, only to find persecution in the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Parsa said, “I came to the U.S. as a political and religious — as a Christian — refugee. They oppressed me for my faith in Iran. I was stabbed in Iran.” Then, in the U.S. he was arrested for a private conversation about his faith, and handcuffed to a metal chair and later charged with trespassing.
“These things might happen in other countries, oppressive dictatorships, but not in America,” he said.
Parsa, now a pastor at Redemptive Love Ministries International in Los Angeles, Calif., traveled to Minnesota for two days to visit two different churches. He went to the Mall of America with an elder from one of the churches.
Shortly after entering the mall, he struck up a casual conversation with two Somali-American women which at first was not about the gospel of Jesus as Parsa recalled. Then they asked him if he was Muslim.
To which he said he used to be a Muslim but was a Christian now and told them the story how he was converted. But another person as a passerby overheard the conversation and was offended, who then called mall security accusing him of harassment.
Security officers responded and warned him against soliciting to which he said he had not done so in the private conversation, and they moved on in the mall for coffee at a shop.
However, when exiting the coffee shop, security guards were waiting and arrested him saying, “You cannot talk religion here.”
Parsa says he was then handcuffed to a chair by the Mall of America security and refused water, the men’s room, and was never told his rights, and then several hours later was taken to jail by Bloomington Police department for sharing his conversion story with someone who asked.
Parsa said, “I’ve gone through this before — in Muslim countries I was arrested for passing out bibles. I didn’t expect that would happen in America.”
