Church-In-A-Pub Phenomenon Ferments Last Days Signs

Signs of the Last Days® MinistryGeneral

It’s reported that the phenomenon of having church in a pub or bar is new and that it’s a growing one. But is this really an evangelistic outreach or is there a more sinister trend here that’s fermenting prophecy signs of the Last Days.

What started as a more informal movement in recent years has now spawned hundreds of church services in dives and bars across the country according to an article for CP Voices.

And in an article for The Wisdom Daily, it said, “People have gathered for ‘Beer and Hymns’ in Portland, ‘Church-in-a-Pub’ in Fort Worth, ‘What Would Jesus Brew’ in Michigan, and the ‘Bar Church’ in D.C.

It also said the welcome message from one group in Boston read:

“Welcome to the Pub Church! We are a church in a pub, and the Spirit is with us. In this place, feel free to move about, help yourself to food and drink, and express yourself openly! We come together with a variety of thoughts, stories, talents, hopes, and hurts; all we bring is welcome. We pray that in coming together with all our differences and with the Spirit, we participate in a new divine reality. This is sacred space.”

This unconventional way of doing church, is said to be in response to the decline of traditional religion in favor of a new kind of church experience;

Where in a less judgmental venue without religiosity, people can develop relationships and make connections and thus grow their church group.

And that since Jesus in His day was found among sinners and associated with them in places the religious would not go, the bar is a place, the supporters of this believe, that one would likely find Jesus if he were physically on earth here today.

For example, it was reported not long ago, how that a well-known pastor of a huge megachurch was observed and recorded drinking shots at a bar with celebrity star Justin Bieber, as part of his mentoring during a conference in New Zealand.

To our knowledge there were no repercussions in that megachurch organization for this pastor, but credit for bringing Bieber to the faith.

But is this really just about evangelistic outreach? … to where its ok to participate in any environment if it’s thought people can be reached?

Or could it be that there is a more sinister trend afoot?

For anyone standing on and adhering to a Biblical foundation of the Holy Scriptures, it would have to be the later.

And that’s the crux of the matter… modern Christianity has let go of the Biblical pillar that All Scripture is given by the inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16).

When weighing in on the scales of what is important, they tilt it all the way toward moving into any environment and doing any activity with the worldly in the name of evangelizing — with that making it ok; and not getting concerned with all Scripture or all those words like instruction in righteousness, reproof, correction, etc.

But if its ok to participate in any environment or activity to gain people, where do you draw the line or is there even a line anymore?

And that is what the great sinful trend of modern Christianity is, the sin of iniquity, which is lawlessness. Saying that I will not be bound by the lines of All Scripture. I will get outside of the lines of the boundaries of All Scripture in the Bible, picking and choosing as it suits my philosophy and purposes.

Which is the idea to make the modern ministry and church of Christianity likable and desirable by people in the world, where they are and doing what they do, like with the church-in-a-pub which Mr. Bieber and his Pastor could enjoy.

Hence modern Christianity is conforming to the world to where they look like each other and act like each other with the church full of people and activities just like what’s in the world.

Yes, we must love people and continue to evangelize the world just as Jesus and His Apostles commanded us, but not at the expense of “All Scripture.”

Jesus did sit, eat, and talk with sinners which the religious Jews of His day would not, but he did not do it to become like them and participate in their sinful activities of drunkenness or harlotry; but in order to transform them to become like Him in righteousness.

All Scripture is explicitly clear, that we are not to be conformed to the world (Romans 12:2) but to be transformed to where we are people who name the name of Christ and depart from iniquity (2 Timothy 2:19).

Because we are not to love the world or the things in the world. For if anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him ( 1 John 2:15 ). We are not to look or act like the world but give them a witness of a better way like Jesus and His Apostles did.

Because we are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own unique, special people, that proclaim the praises of Him who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9). We are to be a living testimony to the power and righteousness of Jesus Christ, that transformed us from the world.

For what fellowship has righteousness with iniquity or lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? … For you are the temple of the living God (2 Corinthians 6:14-16).

There’s a reason for the motto “don’t drink & drive” in society, because of the influence of drinking there has been tremendous loss of life, broken relationships, & broken homes, associated with it. And that’s the same reason why the Bible teaches “don’t drink & church” in society.

A whole Bible chapter (Romans 14) lays out why. In summary it says “It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak.” And it also says that we are not to put ourselves in the position to let our good be spoken of as evil or destroy with drinking the work of God hurting someone for whom Christ died.

“For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17).” In other words, get drunk on the Holy Spirit from heaven above, not the earthly spirits in the pub glass.

So what is happening in modern Christianity with their church-in-a-pub is just what Jesus said would happen in His Last Days prophecies. That because iniquity or lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold (Matthew 24:12).

Where at the end of the Church age in Revelation 3:14-18 comes the Laodicea era of the Last Days which we are in now, with iniquity or lawlessness abounding with love for truth growing cold resulting in a lukewarm apostate church.

Where the Scripture says the church thinks they are well off and they have need of nothing, but actually they’re blind, naked, and poor in God’s eyes. This is the description of modern Christianity.

But thank God the glorified Lord Jesus in that same chapter follows up telling us that He is calling and knocking for us to hear Him, because as many as He loves he also rebukes and chastens so that they will be zealous and repent so to overcome with Him.

The question is, do we have an ear that can hear what the Spirit is saying to the church, or has it got so loud in the worldly din of the pub, to where no one can hear the calling on the outside to come out.
