A popular cult leader in Russia who for years has said that he is Jesus Christ and leading thousands, has now been detained by Russian authorities, with no clear reason why authorities decided to move now.

The Russian authorities mounted a special operation to arrest the man who claims to be the reincarnation of Jesus and has run a cult based in the depths of Siberia for the past three decades.

Helicopters and armed officers stormed communities run by Sergei Torop, known to his followers as Vissarion, and arrested him and two of his aides.

Russia’s investigative committee said it would charge him with organizing an illegal religious organization, alleging that the cult extorted money from followers and subjected them to emotional abuse. The operation involved agents from Russia’s FSB security service as well as police and other agencies to make the arrest.

Thousands of Russians have flocked to southern Siberia to follow this man who claims to be Jesus Christ reincarnated.

Several thousand followers live in a series of remote hamlets in the Krasnoyarsk region in Siberia who are converts to the cult which includes professionals from across Russia as well as pilgrims from abroad.

He tells them that “I am Jesus Christ,” and that “It was prophesied that I would return to finish what I started.” While teaching his followers about a coming apocalypse and saying his goal is to join every religion on the globe together.

He inspired thousands of disillusioned Russians to join his exodus to the wilderness countryside from across the nation who were feeling the absence of moral authority in orthodox churches, and feeling lost searching for a truth.

And the followers were not just the uneducated or ignorant with some having been business professionals, artists, academics, or military officers.

But Vissarion and other false christs like him are signs indicating we live in the Last Days nearing the end of this age.

For Jesus Christ, the true Son of God, foretold in Matthew 24 that this would happen. He prophesied “For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. ”

As delusions will grow in people as the spirit of iniquity increases in the world until the the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped (2 Thessalonians 2) who comes in the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, who deceives the world.

These events and conditions happening now are warning signs pointing to the nearing fulfillment of the Last Days prophecies at the end of this age revealing it’s time to prepare now for the nearing appearance of Jesus Christ for His Church by being born again spiritually into the Kingdom of God as Jesus said we must (John 3) and His Apostles who were authorized (Matthew 16:19) described how (Acts 2).
