A strong earthquake shook the eastern Sierras, and was widely felt across California, from Sacramento to Los Angeles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
Seismologists say it was part of a series of temblors with the largest of the earthquakes registering a magnitude of 5.8, revised down from 6.0, according to the USGS.
It rumbled across most of the state after striking about 13 miles south-southeast of Lone Pine in Inyo County, with the epicenter about 100 miles southeast of Fresno.
The tremor reverberated across the main spine of the southern Sierra Nevada’s with dust rising as the shaking also centered about 230 miles southeast of Sacramento and about 175 miles north of Los Angeles.
The earthquake was followed by several aftershocks with one tremblor reaching 4.4 in magnitude. Dr. Lucy Jones, Southern California’s prominent seismologist, said the earthquake itself had followed a fore-shock in the same area two days ago.
This earthquake’s epicenter is also roughly 50 miles north of the Ridgecrest area, where a strong series of quakes struck almost a year ago, beginning July 4.
In 1872, this area at Lone Pine had one of California’s largest recorded earthquakes.
The Owens Valley Earthquake struck there and scientists believe its magnitude to be between 7.4 to 7.9, making it comparable to, if not greater than, those of the great San Andreas fault earthquakes of 1857 and 1906.
The 1872 quake created a sudden movement of earth’s crust of 15 to 20 vertical feet leveling the town of Lone Pine and about one-tenth of the town at the time was known to have been killed by that temblor.
The Biblical Prophecies of Jesus (Matthew 24, Luke 21) foretell that earthquakes will be a sign indicating the nearing of the end of this age.
These events and conditions happening now are warning signs pointing to the nearing fulfillment of the Last Days prophecies at the end of this age revealing it’s time to prepare now for the nearing appearance of Jesus Christ for His Church by being born again spiritually into the Kingdom of God as Jesus said we must (John 3) and His Apostles who were authorized (Matthew 16:19) described how (Acts 2).
