As the Great American Eclipse tracked south-easterly down across America, a tropical storm was developing and tracking north-westerly toward the U.S.. Now Hurricane Harvey is forecast to roar into Texas and has the makings of a severe disaster.
Its been said that over the past 50 years, just five total solar eclipses have crossed the Atlantic during the June-to-November hurricane season, and the tropics have been inactive during all five events.
And also that there are things making the timing and track of the 2017 eclipse special from the perspective of a potential hurricane-eclipse conjunction.
First, this is the first eclipse in 50 years to occur during the most tropically active two-month period between Aug. 15 and Oct. 15. Second, after leaving the U.S., the path of totality will go out of the U.S. and southeast into the main development region for tropical cyclones in late August.
Tropical Storm Harvey developed at that time from a tropical wave to the east of the Lesser Antilles at the boundary of the Caribbean Sea with the Atlantic Ocean. Since the eclipse it has suddenly accelerated into an increasingly stronger hurricane surprising the weather forecasters.
As the first storm of such intensity to strike the U.S. in about a decade, it is forecast to push out a wave of water onto the Gulf Coast with a storm surge of up to 17 feet and an amazing 3-4 feet of tropical rain.
The grand spectacle of a total solar eclipse is traditionally accompanied by many other rare events: daylight turns to darkness; the midday air cools and stills; birds stop singing and prepare for night.
Could it also be the shadow of the eclipse across America and into the region of tropical activity in the ocean have significance?
We know that rare eclipses can be a Last Days sign, for Jesus in His prophecies said that “… there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars….”
But it’s also possible for storms as hurricanes/cyclones to be last days signs as well, for Jesus also foretold “… on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring ….”(Luke 21:25) In a lifetime on the Gulf Coast experiencing hurricanes, I can say that is exactly what hurricanes do.
America has the intersection of two Biblical signs from the Signs of the Last Days prophecies of Jesus, a sign in the sun and also the sea.
Was the rare eclipse with hurricane a sign to America and a warning of a time of trouble for the sins of a country against God’s Word?
Could it be that this year was a time of warning for the roaring turmoil of what is coming afterwards in 2018?
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom….”
