It has now emerged that the number of potential UK-based terrorists on the radar of the British security services is as high as 23,000.
The figure is more than six times the figure previously released by the British Home Office at the time of last month’s Manchester bombing.
Amazingly, it includes about 400 people who have remarkably been allowed to return to Britain’s shores after fighting with terror group Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria.
Security forces admit they do not have the resources to handle the seriousness of the threat where round-the-clock monitoring of terror suspects is only possible in a handful of cases due to limited resources.
The priority is determined on factors including credibility of intelligence and guessing the apparent seriousness of individual’s intent.
