For the first time ever, in 2018 Alaska recorded 50,000 earthquakes in a calendar year.

As of last check on the Alaska Earthquake Center website, the number of earthquakes reported in Alaska so far this year was 50,499.

They also reported that 18 days after a magnitude 7.0 earthquake shook Southcentral Alaska, nearly 5,000 aftershocks have been registered by seismic sensors, which significantly contributed to surpassing 50,000 recorded earthquakes in Alaska in a year for the first time ever.

A center research technician said that the main drivers of seismic activity in 2018 were the Jan. 23 magnitude 7.9 Kodiak earthquake, the Aug. 12 6.4 Kaktovik earthquake, and the Nov. 30 earthquake.

Alaska Earthquake Center seismologists say that the seismic activity remains “way above” background levels.

An increase of severe earthquake activity is a sign of the Last Days prophecies foretold in the Holy Bible.
