A riot was declared in Portland by police amid a wave of destruction in the city that saw people smash storefront windows of local businesses in the downtown area as the U.S. election is still contested.

Also, demonstrations in New York City showed police and activists in heated confrontations. As NYPD announced about 50 arrests related to the protests. Police also confiscated several weapons, including knives, a stun gun, and explosives.

In Portland, after the unified police command declared a protest in downtown Portland a riot, the Oregon National Guard was activated, as counting of election votes continued to roll in across the country.

Authorities said the National Guard was deployed because there was “widespread violence” happening in downtown Portland.

Police said they declared the gathering an unlawful assembly after marchers threw objects at them.

Police said one of the persons arrested had a rifle with a full magazine of ammunition attached to it. He also had several more magazines, an improvised explosive device, a knife and spray-paint cans. Officials said he was also wearing a tactical vest with ballistic plates.

Officials said the Governor of Oregon had authorized the use of Nation Guard to help local authorities in “the interest of public safety.”

In response to damage, the Portland Business Alliance said many businesses are trying to survive amid the coronavirus pandemic calling the destruction unacceptable and not representative of the exercise of free speech. They also called on local and state leaders to denounce the violence.

The Biblical Prophecies (Matthew 24, Luke 21) foretell that in the Last Days there will be an environment of division with offenses and even hatred, with violence as it was in the days of Noah, which will be signs indicating the nearing end of this age of grace.
