A “perfect storm” of conflict, pestilence, and political issues are making it ever harder to fight a growing outbreak of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the World Health Organization (WHO) said.
So far, Congo’s health ministry reports 150 cases of suspected or confirmed Ebola in the eastern part of the country, but it continues to increase. WHO said 100 people had died with more expected.
This is the second outbreak of Ebola in Congo this year. A previous outbreak in the western part of the country was declared over in July, after infecting 53 people and killing 33.
While the death rate is high, this latest outbreak is not near the scale of the epidemic that swept through Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone in 2014, which killed more than 11,000 people, and traveled far to countries as the U.S. — showing what is possible with pestilence.
Various militant and rebel groups have been staging attacks in Congo areas for years but the fighting has increased recently, making it even harder than it already was to fight the ongoing ebola outbreak.
The fighting is making it harder for aid workers to reach people they need to test or treat for Ebola, or to vaccinate them, and health workers have also been attacked. And politicians are manipulating fears ahead of local elections.
“We are now extremely concerned that several factors may be coming together over the next weeks to months to create a potential perfect storm,” Dr. Peter Salama, WHO’s head of emergency preparedness, said in a statement.
People in the region are already traumatized by decades of conflict and of murder. They are fleeing in many places, and the disease outbreak could easily spread to neighboring countries.
The Ebola has been on the move, and even more so because of the chaotic war zone. Now the spread of war is also helping to spread pestilence as well.
This is a sign of the prophecy of Revelation the 6th chapter of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. It is the scenario as foretold in the prophecy where there was a fiery red horse that came out, given power to take peace from the earth and to make people kill each other.
Then afterwards there came out a pale horse whose rider was Death, given power to kill by sword, famine and plague. This shows the progression how that pestilence can be facilitated as an outcome of the domino effect of the sword or meaning war, then deathly pestilence.
