A magnitude-6.7 earthquake rattled the northern part of Taiwan shaking businesses and stopping railway service according to officials.

They said buildings shook in the capital of Taipei and there were reports of minor damage, and the high-speed railway line that runs north to south across the island came to a halt.

The quake’s epicenter was just off Taiwan’s northeastern coast, at a deep depth of 77km, according to the island’s Central Weather Bureau.

Buildings shook in the capital for around 30 seconds. Taiwan, a self-ruled island that China considers its own, lies near the junction of two tectonic plates and is prone to earthquakes.

More than 100 people were killed in a quake in southern Taiwan in 2016, and some Taiwanese remain scarred by a 7.3 magnitude quake that killed more than 2,000 people in 1999.

The Biblical prophecies (Matthew 24, Luke 21) foretell that earthquakes will happen in diverse places as a sign of the Last Days indicating the nearing end of this age of grace.
