An ominous “Ice Tsunami” has hit towns along the shores of the Great Lakes—literally, as walls of ice have risen from the lakes and crashed into the shorelines causing walls of ice to overwhelm everything in its path from lampposts and retaining walls to buildings.

The ice tsunami was caused by hurricane force winds from a Bomb Cyclone that hit the northeast U.S. roiling giant chunks of ice on the water that then rolled up and hit the banks.

One observer said “this ice tsunami is one of the craziest things I’ve ever witnessed,” going on to say that its “starting to bulldoze trees and street lamps.”

Niagara Parks Police reported ice piling up over a retaining wall in Fort Erie, Ontario, where homes were flooded by the rush of ice and water.

In the lakeside community of Hoover Beach in New York State, the waves of ice crashed into several residential properties, prompting authorities to issue a voluntary evacuation notice.

“We’ve had storms in the past but nothing like this,” one Hoover Beach resident said, and telling local news that “we’ve never had the ice pushed up against the walls and right up onto our patios… it’s in my patio, the neighbor’s patio, and the patio after that.”

Ice tsunamis as this one—also known as “ice shoves” and “ivu,” among other names—are rare events. 

Another observer said, ‘‘It’s awesome! Crazy and awesome at the same time,’’ and then telling the press while getting a photo of the ice tsunami, ‘‘this is unbelievable.’’

The Biblical prophecies foretell that strange events will happen in the weather that impact humankind on earth (Luke 21, Revelation 16), affecting earth’s weather cycles and causing abnormal events.
