The Internet is under attack in the U.S. with major websites inaccessible to people across wide swaths of the United States after a company that manages crucial parts of the internet’s infrastructure said it was under waves of attacks.
The attacks are a distributed denial-of-service attack, or DDoS, which occurs when hackers flood the servers that run a target’s site with internet traffic until it stumbles or collapses under the load. And there is evidence that this attack is becoming more powerful, more sophisticated and increasingly aimed at core internet infrastructure providers.
A spokesperson said the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security were looking into the incident and all potential causes.
Recently the U.S said it was prepping a CIA cyber-strike against Russia. Seems this event could potentially have been a first-strike against the U.S.
