A leader of Iran-backed militia in Iraq has vowed revenge on America in military operations of what they say is an “open war” on the U.S.

Abu Alaa al-Walae, commander of Kataib Sayyid al-Shuhada militia in Iraq said in an interview with the Associated Press in Baghdad that they will launch operations to take revenge on the Americans in Iraq in what is now an open war.

This is in response to U.S. Air Force planes that carried out airstrikes near the Iraq-Syria border against what the Pentagon said were facilities used by Iran-backed militia groups to support drone strikes inside Iraq.

And there were four members of the Iran-supported militia that were killed in the airstrikes.

The U.S. has blamed Iran-backed militias for attacks — most of them rocket strikes — that have targeted the American presence in Baghdad and military bases across Iraq.

And recently, the attacks have become more sophisticated, with the militants using drones.

U.S. military officials have grown increasingly alarmed over drone strikes targeting U.S. military bases in Iraq, more common since a U.S. drone killed Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani near the Baghdad airport.

U.S. officials have said that Iran-backed militias have conducted an increasing number of dangerous drone attacks at US bases this year.

A drone was just shot down near the U.S. Embassy compound in Baghdad, which U.S. military officials said was launched by Iranian proxies. Also adding, that it was weaponized with explosives and was loitering over the U.S.-led coalition base in Baghdad.

As al-Walae, a commander of the Iranian militia in Iraq, is saying that it’s an open war where they want to accomplish an operation of revenge on the U.S. that befits their martyrs.
