Iran has again threatened to walk away from the nuclear agreement reached last year with global powers, hours after the country breached international agreements by test-firing ballistic missiles.
Iran’s most recent ballistic missile test, which violates current U.N. Security Council resolutions, comes a day after the international community’s nuclear watchdog organization disclosed that it is prohibited by the nuclear agreement from publicly reporting on potential violations by Iran.
Iranian leaders now say that they are poised to walk away from the deal if the United States and other global powers fail to advance the Islamic Republic’s “national interests.”
“If our interests are not met under the nuclear deal, there will be no reason for us to continue,” Abbas Araqchi, Iran’s deputy foreign minister warned during remarks delivered to a group of Iranian officials in Tehran.
“If other parties decide, they could easily violate the deal,” Araqchi was quoted as saying by Iran’s state-controlled media. “However, they know this will come with costs.”
Iran has conducted successive launches of ballistic missiles that can reach Israel. Fars reported that the missiles had text written on them in Hebrew saying, “Israel must be wiped off the face of the earth,” an allusion to the famous declaration by the former Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
The missiles were launched from the eastern part of the Alborz mountain range that hugs the Caspian Sea in northern Iran, the semiofficial news agency Tasnim reported.
“We have huge reserves of various range ballistic missiles that are ready to target enemies and their aims, at any time, from different points of the country,” Brig. Gen. Hossein Salami, the deputy commander of the Revolutionary Guards, told reporters on the sidelines of the missile-firing drills in Kavir, Qum Province, the semiofficial Fars news agency reported.
The head of the Revolutionary Guards’ missile program, Brig. Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh, said the rockets had a range of about 1,200 miles and were capable of hitting the “Zionist regime,” Iran’s name for its archenemy Israel, the semiofficial news agency Mehr reported. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) maintains the largest stock of ballistic missiles in the Middle East.
The chairman of the U. S. House Foreign Affairs Committee said that “Iran is making a mockery of President Obama’s vow to confront Iran’s dangerous and illicit acts.” He urged the President to “aggressively enforce all sanctions against Iran’s missile programs, support for terrorism and human rights abuses. No more looking the other way.”
Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon told Israel Radio the missile tests showed Iran’s hostility had not changed since implementing a nuclear deal with world powers in January, despite Rouhani’s overtures to the West. “To my regret there are some in the West who are misled by the honeyed words of part of the Iranian leadership while the other part continues to procure equipment and weaponry, to arm terrorist groups,” Yaalon said.
Iran is the sworn enemy of Israel who has sworn to wipe Israel off the map. Iran’s Ayatollahs and Presidents along with other Iranian leaders believe they are to bring in the End of Days so that their Shia messiah will appear to establish a global Islamic kingdom known as the caliphate. They believe the way to hasten the coming of their Twelfth Imam is to annihilate Israel (which they call the “Little Satan”), and the United States (which they call the “Great Satan”). Iranian national leadership and policy is driven by this Shia eschatology.
Iran knows that now it has been presented with a unique window of opportunity by the U.S. Administration with its de facto withdrawal from the Middle East, deferment to Iran, and distancing from Israel; realized in recent actions as complete withdrawal from Iraq that relinquished it to Iran; meaningless red line bluster and then little action in Syria relinquishing it to Iran; also distancing from Israel with diminishing support; and funding Iran by providing it 55 billion dollars in a recent bad nuclear deal. And now Iran is accelerating forward with their plans for the Middle East and Israel with this funding.
Iran’s important goal now, after convincing Russia to basically invade Syria with their help – which for Iran is a go-forward model for Middle East aggression since U.S. regression, is to convince Russian leadership to agree that Israel is the problem in Middle Eastern issues and “hook” them into invading Israel as they did Syria. They know Russia already has a historical track record of supporting the Islamic Arab countries in attacking Israel serving as the “guard” for them in several previous Arab-Israeli wars. The ultimate goal of Iran and other Islamist countries, is to establish again the Islamic Caliphate. But they also want to destroy Israel and completely take Jerusalem. Everything they do revolves around this goal, and they plan to invade Israel and get Russia to help lead the way.
Iran’s launching of these ballistic missiles into the skies and their threats toward Israel and the U.S., are strong signs of the times telling that the latter days are at hand, and for those that love God to be looking for the appearing of Jesus Christ in the clouds for his Church.
