Terrorist Islamic State said through its news agency that one of its “soldiers” had carried out the attack in a German Christmas market, in which 12 people were killed and 50 injured when a large truck plowed into the market.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel vowed to punish those responsible for the attack “as harshly as the law requires”.
She has expressed concern that the attacker might turn out to have been an asylum seeker.
