Islamic State Jihadists, including some disguised as women, stunned Iran with brazen attacks on the Iranian Parliament building and the tomb of its revolutionary founder, in the worst terrorist strike to hit the Iranian Islamic republic in many years.
At least 12 people were killed and 46 were wounded in the near-simultaneous assaults, which lasted for hours, clearly taking Iran’s security forces by surprise.
The six known attackers were killed, official news media said, and five suspects also were reported detained.
There are Iranian-backed forces in Iraq and Syria that are fighting the Islamic State.
