Israeli Government Collapses After Netanyahu Makes Gaza Cease-Fire

Signs of the Last Days® MinistryNews

The Times of Israel reports that The Jewish Home party will leave the Netanyahu government coalition, bringing down the Israeli government and forcing new elections.

The Jewish Home party’s decision came after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected Jewish Home leader Naftali Bennett’s demand to be made defense minister.

The collapse of the government coalition began with the dramatic resignation of Israel’s defense minister, Avigdor Liberman, who was enraged over a cease-fire the government agreed to after Palestinian terrorists led by Hamas launched 400 missiles into southern Israel.

In resigning his post he branded the cease-fire in Gaza as a ” capitulation to terror.”

Israel’s parliament, known as the Knesset, has 120 seats and a majority is required to form or maintain a government. The defection of Liberman and his five seats left Netanyahu with a razor-thin 61-seat coalition.

Now with the defection of Bennett and The Jewish Home party, the Netanyahu coalition would go down from 61 seats to just 53. The government must have the backing of at least half of the 120 seat Knesset to survive no-confidence motions.

Now Netanyahu must enter into negotiations with coalition chiefs to try and build back his coalition to the necessary number of Knesset seats — or go to new elections.

Netanyahu is stressing the importance of making every effort to preserve the right-wing government and not to repeat 1992 when the right-wing government was overthrown, the left came into power and brought in the Oslo Accords.

The Oslo Accords is where the Arabs and Israelis held significant negotiations reaching a Declaration of Principles for a framework that would be the outline for the  Arab-Israeli peace process to move forward to achieve peace.

However, the framework process eventually collapsed with unresolved disagreements and new violence, but some provisions of the Oslo Accords remain in effect, such as the role of the Palestinian Authority.

But prophetically, we know from Daniel the 9th chapter, that eventually a government will be realized in Israel that is open to serious negotiations that will make an agreement that brings to realization Daniel’s 70th Week Prophecy, restarting Israel’s prophetic time clock for the final 7 year period of the end-time.
