In an interview, Israel’s Culture Minister Miri Regev said that God, not people, will decide who becomes Israel’s next prime minister.
When speaking to 103 FM Radio, Regev bristled at a suggestion by her interviewer that Yisrael Beytenu party chief Avigdor Lieberman may be the one to ultimately decide who will form the next governing coalition in Israel.
She then said “God is the one who will decide who will be next prime minister. I don’t know that people decide who is prime minister.”
As Israel is heading to an unprecedented second election within a year, and with polls predicting further political gridlock in its aftermath and no clear path to forming a government, it seems this Israeli minister thinks that God is at work leading to what should be Israel’s next government.
Interestingly, religious beliefs have not prominently seemed to be a feature in her previous rhetoric, as Regev has not commented clearly about her religious affiliation in the past.
Liberman, referenced in the interview, had refused to join a coalition with Netanyahu after the April election, which caused Netanyahu to fail in forming a government and was a major factor in the move to call unprecedented second elections.
Liberman had refused to join Netanyahu’s new government unless a bill formalizing exemptions to mandatory military service for yeshiva students was passed as is, a demand flatly rejected by the prime minister’s ultra-Orthodox coalition partners.
Without the Yisrael Beytenu party, Netanyahu as Prime Minister designate was one seat short of a ruling majority in the coalition talks.
And instead of informing the president that he had failed to form a coalition within the required time-frame as prescribed by Israeli parliamentary procedure — at which point the president could have handed the task of forming a government to a different member of the Knesset — Netanyahu instead led parliament to disband and call new elections.
Since then, Netanyahu and his Likud party have sought to destroy Liberman’s power base and draw in the vote that has traditionally supported him. Instead, Liberman, a former defense minister, has only risen in polls and his party is projected to win even more seats in the Knesset.
And in most major polls, Netanyahu still does not appear to have a Knesset majority, and is no closer to being able to form a government coalition after the coming September 17 election than he was after the previous April vote — and will perhaps find the task even tougher than before.
So it seems that Israel’s Culture Minister is exactly right. The people can’t decide who will be the next prime minister. And only God knows how they will decide, and who will become Israel’s next Prime Minister.
And could it be that God has decided for their to be a change in the government of Israel?
Where such a new government could eventually head in a new direction from the past, willing to engage in Mid-East negotiations between Israel and its neighbors, that can lead to the prophesied agreement of the Daniel chapter 9 prophecy.
Which that Mid-East agreement will mark the beginning of the last 7 years at the end of this age of human government known as the Times of the Gentiles.
It will happen, in the fullness of time, for the Lord God’s prophecy has foretold it. And it seems people in Israel, as Miri Regev, may be sensing it.
These events and conditions happening now are signs pointing to the nearing fulfillment of the Last Days prophecies at the end of this age revealing it’s time to prepare for the nearing appearance of Jesus Christ for His Church by being born again spiritually into the Kingdom of God as Jesus said we must (John 3) and His Apostles who were authorized (Matthew 16:19) described how (Acts 2).
Preparing those Biblically born again into the Kingdom of God to be ready to escape all these things that will come to pass, in the wrath of the tribulation of Revelation prophecy that comes upon the world of disobedience, as the born again Church is not appointed to wrath but instead to salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ.
