Japan Hit By 6.7 Magnitude Earthquake

Signs of the Last Days® MinistryNews

A powerful earthquake has rocked the city of Sapporo in northern Japan just hours after large parts of the south of the country were battered by the biggest typhoon to hit in 25 years.

The Magnitude 6.7 quake struck 70 miles south of Sapporo on the island of Hokkaido according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Local government officials are reporting that the devastating tremor killed 4 people, another 33 are still missing, and 120 people were injured, with more deaths expected.

Japanese TV showed damaged buildings and quoted police as saying some people had been trapped in collapsed structures. The tremor, which lasted for about 20 seconds, triggered landslides which covered homes trapping residents inside.

The entire island lost power after the tremor when for the first time the utility company conducted an emergency shutdown of all its power plants. All trains across the island were also halted. Scared residents shared stories of spending a terrifying night in the dark with one resident saying the quake was huge.
