Jerusalem Court Orders Illegal Mosque Closed on Temple Mount

Signs of the Last Days® MinistryGeneral

Tensions have soared in Jerusalem recently over the closed Eastern Gate or Gate of Mercy on the Temple Mount as Palestinians have rioted there in starting another mosque on the Temple Mount.

But a Jerusalem court has ordered the closure of the area again. The Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court said the building area known as the Gate of Mercy or Golden Gate on the Temple Mount should be closed while legal proceedings continue.

The Temple Mount Eastern Gate or Gate of Mercy was closed off by Israeli authorities in 2003 with gates and locks so to prevent Muslim subversive activities and protect Jewish antiquities there.

And it has been kept closed to stop illegal mosque construction work there by the Waqf muslim committee since Israeli officials said this was causing irreparable harm to archaeologically significant parts of the holy site.

Israeli officials believe the work carried out by the Waqf, which refused to allow any Israeli observers, has led to the destruction of antiquities from periods of Jewish presence in the area.

But recently the Waqf has repeatedly challenged the closure, convening and staging prayer-protests in the area that erupted into violence in clashes with police.

Then the Waqf reopened the site and Palestinian worshipers began to use it as a mosque causing more clashes with Israeli security forces including a firebombing.

Now Israeli security has again sealed the area off while officials hold talks and Jerusalem Court proceedings continue.

The Eastern Gate is the oldest gate of the Old City facing the Mount of Olives, and is prophetically special for both Jews and Christians.

It has been a point of conflict for centuries as the Muslims continue to try and prevent Jewish access to the Eastern Gate because they fear the Biblical Jewish prophecies of the Messiah arriving at the gate.

The Eastern Gate was even sealed shut in AD 1541 with fifteen feet of cement by order of Suleiman the Magnificent, the Muslim sultan of the Ottoman Empire. When he became aware of the prophecies which predicted the Messiah’s arrival there.

The Biblical prophecies (Zechariah 14, Luke 21, Revelation 11) foretell that Israel and Jerusalem will become the focus of the world in the Last Days signaling we are nearing the end of this age and the coming of Jesus Christ.
