In a poignant display of piety, the first prayers were for the Israeli police who fell protecting the Jewish site in the recent Muslim terror attack at the site.
This opportunity for Jewish prayer on the Temple Mount came due to Israel’s closure of the holy site to Muslims in the wake of a brazen Muslim assault on Israeli police there.
Israel closed the religious compound for the first time since 1969, saying it was for security purposes.
