Hurricane Laura struck Louisiana as one of the most powerful storms in U.S. history, leaving widespread destruction across the state. At least six people were killed in Louisiana.
The storm tore apart homes and businesses and knocked out power to nearly one million customers in Texas and Louisiana. Arkansas was even put under a state of emergency and was lashed by damaging winds and flooding.
Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards told a news conference, “This was the most powerful storm to ever make landfall in Louisiana.”
Laura’s maximum sustained winds of 150 miles per hour upon landfall easily bested Hurricane Katrina, which sparked deadly levee breaches in New Orleans in 2005, and arrived with wind speeds of 125 mph.
In Westlake, Louisiana, a chemical plant caught fire when hit by Laura, and the flames continued to send a chlorine-infused plume of smoke skyward nearly 24 hours after landfall.
Laura’s howling winds leveled buildings across a wide swath of the state and a wall of water crashed into tiny Cameron, Louisiana, where the hurricane made landfall around 1 a.m.
But thankfully, a calamitous 20-foot storm surge that had been forecast to move 40 miles inland was avoided when Laura tacked east just before landfall.
Laura is another record storm that exhibited the new phenomenon of “rapid intensification.” Where the storm intensified through to the point of landfall gaining 70% of its power in the last 24 hours approaching the coast line.
The Biblical Prophecies (Matthew 24, Luke 21) foretell that the sea and the waves would be roaring as a sign of nearing the end of this age.
These events and conditions happening now are warning signs pointing to the nearing fulfillment of the Last Days prophecies at the end of this age revealing it’s time to prepare now for the nearing appearance of Jesus Christ for His Church by being born again spiritually into the Kingdom of God as Jesus said we must (John 3) and His Apostles who were authorized (Matthew 16:19) described how (Acts 2).
