A magnitude 6.6 earthquake damaged buildings and roads and sent residents fleeing from their homes in the central Philippines.
The shallow quake struck southeast of Masbate Island in the Bicol region at 8:03am (00:03 GMT) on Tuesday, the US Geological Survey said.
At least one person had been killed and 43 injured when the 6.6-m earthquake shook the central Philippines, damaging buildings and roads and sending residents fleeing their homes.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the quake hit about five kilometres (three miles) from Cataingan at a depth of about 21 kilometres (13 miles).
Local radio station reporter Christopher Decamon said he saw emergency workers pull the body of a retired police officer from the rubble of a three-story house on the outskirts of Cataingan. The man’s wife escaped unharmed.
The earthquake “was really strong, our people were broadcasting at the time, but they just ran out of the building”, Decamon told AFP news agency by telephone.
Search-and-rescue efforts were still under way in the region. So far, the Philippine seismology office has recorded at least 24 aftershocks, with the strongest registering at a magnitude of 3.8.
The quake struck as the nation battles surging numbers of coronavirus infections, with restrictions on movement that vary across the country with lock-down affecting a quarter of the population, including the capital Manila.
The Biblical Prophecies (Matthew 24, Luke 21, Romans 8, Revelation 6) foretell that diverse seismic activity as earthquakes and volcanoes will be a sign indicating the nearing end of this age of grace.
These events and conditions happening now are warning signs pointing to the nearing fulfillment of the Last Days prophecies at the end of this age revealing it’s time to prepare now for the nearing appearance of Jesus Christ for His Church by being born again spiritually into the Kingdom of God as Jesus said we must (John 3) and His Apostles who were authorized (Matthew 16:19) described how (Acts 2).
