A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck off the coast of Southwest Alaska with it felt throughout the Alaska Peninsula and Kodiak Island.
The Alaska Earthquake Center is calling it an aftershock of an 8.2 quake in late July that was the largest Alaska earthquake since 1965. And caused a tsunami warning and local evacuations along the southwest Gulf of Alaska coast.
This current earthquake occurred about 70 miles east of Chignik, a community of about 90 people on the Alaska Peninsula.
The center said it had not received reports of significant damage but also relies on self-reporting. And a spokesperson for Alaska’s emergency management office, said the office was contacting communities for any reports of damage.
The U.S. Geological Survey had first reported a preliminary magnitude of 6.5 but that was later revised up to 6.9.
Making it one of the largest aftershocks tallied since the United States experienced its largest earthquake in the past half-century with the magnitude 8.2 quake that struck south of the Alaska Peninsula on July 28.
It was widely felt but caused no major damage in the sparsely populated region closest to it. The earthquake center at the time said it was the biggest quake in the U.S. since a magnitude 8.7 earthquake in the Aleutians in 1965.
The Biblical prophecies (Matthew 24, Luke 21, Revelation 6) foretell that there will be earthquakes in the prophetic Last Days signaling the world is nearing the end of this age and the coming of Jesus Christ.
These events and conditions happening now are warning signs pointing to the nearing fulfillment of the Last Days prophecies at the end of this age revealing it’s time to prepare now for the nearing appearance of Jesus Christ for His Church by being born again spiritually into the Kingdom of God as Jesus said we must (John 3) and His Apostles who were authorized (Matthew 16:19) described how (Acts 2).
