The Israel Antiquities Authority announced the discovery of dozens of fragments of a biblical scroll containing text of Biblical prophets recovered in an operation in the Judean Desert.
In what was described as a “complex and challenging national archaeological operation,” these newly revealed scroll fragments include portions from Biblical books as those of prophets Zechariah and Nahum.
A passage from Zechariah 8:16-17 is one example of a text that was found: “These are the things you are to do: Speak the truth to one another, render true and perfect justice in your gates. And do not contrive evil against one another, and do not love perjury, because all those are things that I hate—declares the Lord.”
Most of the text is in Greek, but the name of God appears in ancient Hebrew script, known from the times of the First Temple in Jerusalem. The scroll is believed to have been hidden there during the Jewish revolt against the Roman Empire nearly 1,900 years ago.
A team in the desert rappelled down to the cave where the antiquities were located. In addition to the scroll fragments, the archaeologists also discovered other items. Including coins from the time of the Jewish revolt, a mummified skeleton of a child, and a well-preserved ancient basket.
The Dead Sea Scrolls, first discovered more than 70 years ago in this same area, are the oldest known copies of the Bible. The climatic conditions inside the desert caves preserved the ancient and precious objects.
The Holy Scriptures of the Biblical Prophecies have given inspiration by God (2 Timothy 3) to the generations, as they were preserved and published for the world to know the signs of the nearing end of this age.
These events and conditions happening now are warning signs pointing to the nearing fulfillment of the Last Days prophecies at the end of this age revealing it’s time to prepare now for the nearing appearance of Jesus Christ for His Church by being born again spiritually into the Kingdom of God as Jesus said we must (John 3) and His Apostles who were authorized (Matthew 16:19) described how (Acts 2).
