After Pakistan’s Supreme Court found Asia Bibi, a Christian mother falsely accused of blasphemy against Islam who spent eight years on death row, innocent of the charges, the Pakistan government has made a deal ,with Islamists rioting across the country, to prevent Bibi’s release from prison and bar her from seeking asylum.

Pakistan government officials made the agreement with Islamists, who were rioting across the country, to bar Ms Bibi from leaving Pakistan in order to end the violent protests over the ruling of her innocence by the court and are keeping her imprisoned.

Human rights groups who have been campaigning for her release have blasted the government’s deal with the Islamists saying it was the same as signing her “death warrant.”

The government became fearful when Islamists took to the streets after the Christian was declared innocent holding rallies nationwide threatening violence closing down shops and schools.

And the government was shocked when the Islamists urged the three judges who acquitted Bibi to be killed, and also to revolt against the newly elected government of Pakistan’s new prime minister, Imran Khan, who came to power partly by pursuing an Islamist agenda.

Pakistan’s Islamists have put in place harsh blasphemy laws, which critics say are often used to persecute and intimidate Christians who are a religious minority in Pakistan which is mostly Islamic.

The Islamists have been screaming for nothing less than the hanging of Bibi who was falsely charged with blasphemy and convicted by false witness, which the Supreme Court of Pakistan found to be the case. But now they find their lives in peril also unless they reverse their decision and find Bibi guilty.

With the Islamists in Pakistan emotions flare easily over mere rumors of blasphemy thinking that Islam has been insulted. People accused of it are often killed by mobs even before police can take action. 

Bibi is the first woman ever sent to Pakistan’s death row for blasphemy and the Islamists view the stakes attached to Bibi’s case as extremely high. The Pakistani government has surrendered its authority and also justice to the violent Islamists allowing them to dictate the actions of the country of Pakistan.

For Bibi, it will now take a miracle of God for her to reach the freedom her innocence demands.
