What is Lawlessness? Throwing out the rulebook. Unruly disregard. I’ll do it my way. Doing opposite of what’s expected. Like saying I’m Christian but voting for cursing and casinos. Getting the outcome I want excuses any actions to attain it. Law breakers don’t suffer consequences. An environment for deception and delusion. Christ prophesied it would increase.
The Scriptures positioned it like this, “…what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness?”
And Jesus Christ foretold this phenomenon, saying in Matthew 24 that lawlessness would increase at end of the age. The Apostle Paul whom Christ personally visited on earth and showed the Third Heaven to, obviously an expert, said that “…the mystery of lawlessness is already at work…” 2 Thess. 2
He went on to describe the secret power of lawlessness working in the world. That one can recognize it by its arrogant opposition and exaltation of self over everything that is called from God.
And that this power of lawlessness will continue to grow until the ultimate lawless one referred to as an antichrist is revealed. Paul further describes the coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. Meaning this person will use all sorts of displays of power through demonstrations that serve the lies of deception.
And then Paul tells why lawlessness happens – it’s because people don’t have a love for the truth. Getting what self wants becomes more important than Truthful guidance, like Divine laws. And the absence of desiring truth, allows lies, then deception, and acceptance of a delusion as reality. This typically leads to worshipping creation instead of creator, thus paving the way for worship by the masses of personality.
America was established and grew strong through loving the law of God. Our Founders in the Declaration of Independence referenced “the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God” as the basis for what they did; and that we as a people were “endowed by the Creator” with our lawful rights under Him. They also “appealed to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of their intentions.” And with a “firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence” pledged their lives, fortunes, and honor to the work of establishing America.
Our first schools started in our churches, our first textbook was the Holy Bible, our first act of the day was prayer, and we learned our laws and behaviors from the Word of God. As a country we grew strong and exalted by God, and led the world in opposing the aggression of evil men and achieving peace.
How can the same people decide that prayer and the Bible cannot be in school, that babies given life by God can be killed in the mother’s womb, or decide that after God established the nature of marriage and family structure which mankind has adhered to for many millenniums that now they will change it according to their own desires. All of which is in direct lawless opposition to God’s Word.
And people ask why we don’t win wars or gain respect anymore. Do not be deceived, God is not mocked, one reaps what they sow. And America is now reaping a whirlwind of increasing trouble in its families, schools, society, and institutions, leading to future tribulations for this dear country. Could we find time to turn off the iPhone, computers, videogames, TVs, and go to prayer instead of going to a dinner and movie? Our country needs it more now than ever. It is our only hope of preventing the trouble to come.
America’s descent into lawlessness has gone on for a while, but has picked up speed. Justice has become blind just for those who are not politically well-connected or well-funded. In the recent past there has been more systematic picking and choosing what laws will be enforced and those that are not, depending on the personalities and power involved. The blindfold of Lady Justice has been ripped off by lawlessness of a society that promotes money, fame, and power more than truth.
