Central Italy was hit by three earthquakes in three hours bringing fear and foreboding to the same area that was struck by deadly tremors last year.
The quakes were so strong that they also caused buildings in Rome to shake, with office workers rushing out onto the streets, schools were evacuated and ordered to close, and Rome’s metro subway service suspended.
Centuries-old papal palaces in Rome swayed during the tremors. The area of central Italy has recently experienced increasing earthquake activity.
A devastating 6.2 magnitude earthquake ripped through central Italy in August of 2016, killing hundreds and leaving thousands homeless. Since then there has been several significant earthquakes and tens of thousands of aftershocks.
