A state-owned Russian newspaper called TASS reported that Aleksei Pavlov, an assistant secretary on the Security Council of Russia, called for the “desatanization” of Ukraine.
Pavlov said, “I believe that with the continuation of the special military operation, it becomes more and more urgent to carry out the desatanization of Ukraine.”
According to TASS, Pavlov said he didn’t know how many covens of satanists there were in Ukraine but that he expected it to be in the hundreds.
He also said that the Church of Satan is an officially recognized religion in the U.S. and that its influence has been spreading in Ukraine.
Claims of Ukrainian and Western Satanism are now part of the media landscape in Russia after Putin announced the illegal annexation of territory in east Ukraine and he accused the West of “outright Satanism.”
Kremlin-owned news organizations have since claimed that remnants of witches covens were discovered where Ukrainian soldiers consecrated weapons with blood magic.
Pavlov also included in his list of cults the Jews saying that they have become a major religious force throughout the former Soviet Union then in Russia and Ukraine in particular.
With him saying that the Jews main principle is the superiority of the supporters of the sect over all peoples in the nations of the world.
In response to the statements, Russia’s chief rabbi, penned an open letter to Russian authorities, calling for the condemnation of Pavlov’s remarks.
But in recent months, Moscow has cracked down on the activities of Jewish agencies in Russia, even putting Jewish organizations on trial for allegedly improperly monitoring Russian citizens and storing data on them.
As relations between Russia and Israel continue to sour, amidst Russian officials increasing efforts to paint Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine as a holy war as the war drags on and their losses mount.
