The largest reservoir in the United States is 148 feet down and still dropping. Scientists are calling the water shortage the worst in centuries. Saying the plight is a symbol of the crippling “mega drought” that has gripped the Southwest with no sign of letting up.
The mega-drought is draining lakes with water sources drying up; green hillsides have turned brown; residents and businesses face increasingly tougher water use restrictions; and governments are scrambling to find new ways to create usable water as critical supplies run down.
The Governor of California said, “People should realize we’re in a new era… we are in a transition period. People have to realize that in many parts… they are living in a desert.”
